I Want It… I Want It All… And I Want It Now
While it’s not limited just to the U.S., it seems to be most prevalent here and has grown into quite a problem over the past couple of generations: the attitude that everyone deserves everything they want. I see this most often, but not exclusively, in younger people… a sense of entitlement that sometimes is very subtle but all-too-frequently quite overt.
I agree that it would be wonderful if all people could have all the things they want. Unfortunately, that’s not reality. And to have that expectation is to set yourself up for disappointment.
We live in a great country where it is POSSIBLE for people to have many things… but there is a basic requirement for that to actually occur: WORK. Seems like many have forgotten that component of the formula.
So, if you want a new car, all you have to do is work harder. In our free enterprise economy, you can start a business or you can go to work foe someone else. Either way, it will take some time and effort on your part to achieve your goal of a new car. If you have established good credit, you can even BORROW money from someone else and have that car NOW (before you have worked to pay for it). But you still have to work for what you get.
Pretty simple. Where people get the notion that they can get something without effort is a mystery to me.
Hmmmm…. wait a minute. Maybe they just believe what they are being told by politicians and others that they can get something for nothing. That MUST be it!! When people are continually exposed to messages that lead them to believe that they CAN get things they haven’t worked for… indeed, that they DESERVE these things… they will start to believe it. Unfortunately, it’s all LIES… and anyone who believes it is a fool.
The people of the U.S. used to have a reputation for being hard-working, well-grounded, fair-minded individuals. The trend has been toward lazy, unrealistic, dependent attitudes… and it must stop. WE must re-institute the core characteristics before they become extinct.
