It’s Time to Reform Education
Over the past several decades, we have seen most of the institutions in our country adopt better ways to achieve their goals, to accomplish their purposes. From banking to electronics, from transportation to telecommunications, significant changes have led to a much different way of doing business for all of us.
One area that has seen little actual change, despite a great deal of effort and expense, is our educational system. I think the general consensus is that better results are desired by all… but few have been recorded.
It is time to implement a market-based method of driving change… and results… in a positive direction. I believe a voucher system will do this. Vouchers will put power in the hands of those who should have it: parents. Parents will decide what schools are the best for their children, what teaching methods and curriculum they prefer for their kids, what teachers and administrators they believe are most capable of getting the most out of the future leaders of our country.
Vouchers will ensure that successful schools get the most support and bad ones will either improve or wither and die. Vouchers will help get the most out of tax dollars spent on education AND increase the participation of parents in the process. Greater value and better involvement… icing on the cake of better educated children.
I am confident the net result will be exceptionally positive and astonishingly fast in the relative scope of things. I bet that, perhaps within a single generation, an entirely fresh perspective of our educational system will change it from being a source of complaint and conflict to one of pride and support.
