Government budgets
When you or I have to make decisions about where to spend our money, we make value judgments.
In theory, when politicians consider expenditures, the same thought-process should come into play… but, all too frequently, it doesn’t. First, it isn’t really THEIR money they’re spending… it’s OURS. Second, many of the choices are part of side agreements made with other politicians (”you support my pet project and I’ll support yours”). Last, there is little personal accountability when really poor choices are made since even large sums of money become a tiny part of the overall government budget.
If governments were run like most households, I bet more good things would be done and at a lower overall cost.
